Mary Medders had a son out of wedlock by the name of Benjamin Newton Medders; he was the grandson of one of the original founders of Bacon County, Georgia, Benjamin Batchelor “Meadows “ Medders. MEDDERS, GEORGIAUS Postal Registry
At one time there was in use in the state, a map of Georgia, which listed a town in Bacon County named “Medders”. Its principal need was to serve the area around it as a post office, for it existed in the days before Rural Free Delivery. Medders was a good size community, including the post office, warehouse, general store and several homes.

This busy cotton growing community was named for Mr. Benjamin Newton Medders (grandfather of Miss Dorene Altman). Mr. Medders was Postmaster, Justice of the Peace and presumably carried any other title need to carry on the business of his little town. Only one-house remains standing, the others have burned or rotted down. All that remains can be seen by taking a left turn off the Bennett Still Road onto a new paved road, leading to Big Creek Church, and going about three quarters of a mile. (map and documentary information on this page provided by, Roderick G Medders. Note: Medders, Georgia is located Just underneath the word "APPLING".
